Have courage for the great sorrows of life, patience for the small ones; and go to sleep in peace.

God is awake! This should be of comfort to those of us who call upon his name in our distress but what if it isn’t? What if our

sorrows are still open wounds that just won’t heal; His love is not cutting through the noise in our head? The mornings of

despair when I’m in the throes of my depression can leave me empty and void of any hope. I’ve learned to put one foot in

front of the other but there was a time when even doing that was too much effort. How does one make it through this life

without hope? When nothing is going right, and everything is hitting the fan who or what do you turn to? There was a time

when I had to have a drink in my hand to face any of life’s disappointments and a handful of pills to forget them. But

thankfully those days are no more. I like the lyrics to U2’s song, Drowning Man. “take my hand, You know I’ll be there if

you can, I’ll cross the sky for your love, For I have promised Oh, to be with you tonight And for the time that will come, Hold

on, and hold on tightly, Hold on, and don’t let go of my love”. I’ve been that drowning man many a time and will be him

again for sure but there is a lifeline of hope available! “God so loved the world that he gave his son Jesus that whosoever

looks up to him, trusting and expectant, will gain a real life, whole life and eternal life.” John 3:16. Hold onto his love today

and don't let go!!

Have courage for the great sorrows of life, and patience for the small ones; and then when you have laboriously accomplished your daily task, go to sleep in peace. God is awake - Victor Hugo.
